Archival Release - Hollows Leather Belt

Our newest collaboration with Hollows Leather, based in Minneapolis, is our Archival Leather Belt in waxed harness leather.  Like all of the products out of Nick's workshop, this belt is stylish, durable and built to endure.  This one is made from 11 oz russet harness from Wickett & Craig in Pennsylvania, abrasion-resistant waxed nylon and a raw-brass Japanese double garrison buckle.  Heavily waxed harness leather works great for belts because it holds up well to the elements, needs infrequent care and is both thick and flexible.  The edges on Nick's belts are beveled and finished with beeswax.  It should last you a lifetime.   For more details or to place an order, visit our Archival Web Shop.

New Release - Archival Day Pack

Inspired by climbing packs from the 1970s, our Day Pack is a compact and convenient bag for everyday use in the city or on the trail. Designed for lighter loads, it's smaller and made with a lighter weight fabric than our Rucksack.

The main compartment is easily accessed by a sturdy, twin slider brass zipper. The pack features an interior main pocket and two outside side pockets for anything requiring quick access.

A leather lash point on the back is perfect for attaching a cycling light, an ice axe, or anything else you need to clip on. Includes a semi-rigid, padded back panel and solid brass rings to adjust the shoulder straps, just like our Rucksack.
Only the highest quality materials are used for our bags: water-resistant cotton duck, Horween Chromexcel leather, YKK zippers, and thread are of US origin. Webbing and most of our solid brass hardware is sourced from the UK. Edges are bound in waxed cotton tape and all stress points are bar-tacked or riveted.

To place an order or for more information, visit our Archival Web Shop.

Release - Wave Pattern Kerchiefs

We're offering a new, discharge printed kerchief made by General Quarters, one of our favorite Los Angeles stockists.  Blair, owner of General Quarters, designed this kerchief with a Japanese pattern called Nami or Seigaiha.  According to Blair, the word means "calm waves" and the four arcs in the pattern represent the four oceans surrounding Japan.  Note: for folks who purchased our dot kerchief, the blanks for the wave pattern kerchiefs are slightly larger (perfect for neckwear).  Available via our Archival Web Shop.

Release - Dot Kerchiefs

I first spotted these kerchiefs at General Quarters, one of my favorite Los Angeles stockists. For those of you that have followed us for awhile, you know how much we love traditional, discharge printed cotton kerchiefs. Outside of Japan, they can be difficult to source. The General Quarters version is beautifully discharge printed in LA on all cotton blanks. The original design echoes historical polka dot patterns found in old Montgomery Wards catalogs from the 1940s.  Visit the Archival Web Shop for more information or to place an order.

Release - Small Field Bags in Canvas Duck

Our Small Field Bag is a scaled-down version of our original Field Bag for those who don't need to carry as much in the field or to the office. Intended as a daily workhorse, our field bag is a cross between a traditional English fishing bag and an urban messenger bag.  Durable construction and practical features allow the bag to excel at carrying gear both outdoors and to the office.

For Spring we’re releasing this bag in 18 oz cotton duck fabric in natural, navy, charcoal and carmine red.  Like the original Field Bag, the Small Field Bag is trimmed in Horween leather and features solid brass hardware, a YKK zipper and mil spec cotton webbing.

Available via the Archival Web Shop and select stockists.

Archival Release - Marled Cotton Caps

For the Fall, we're releasing our knit caps in soft, itchless, 100% marled cotton.  These cozy hats are made on a 1920s-era circular knitting machine. We love their sturdy ribbed knit and subtle colors.   They're terrifically comfortable, but please note that unlike wool, these caps won't keep you warm if they get soaked, so don't take them backpacking!

New Release: Archival x Steele Basket Tote

For summer, we introduce our new waterproof bottom Archival x Steele Canvas Tote which is perfect for your larger capacity toting needs. It's our favorite bag for carrying essentials to and from the beach or neighborhood swimming pool.

Steele Canvas Totes are constructed from extra-stout #4 natural canvas duck, undyed to ensure maximum fabric strength. A double bottom in waterproof truck tarp ensures you can set it down in challenging conditions. The structure provided by the rectangular and boxy base of the Tote maximizes its load capacity. Really nice, stiff edges enable the Archival Steele Canvas Tote to stand upright and open for easy loading and unloading. Two reinforced 8" handles and a practical internal pocket round out the design.

17 x 17 x 10

Made in USA

This release of the tote features the original The Steele Basket stencil from the archives.
