Archival Restock - Web Belts

We're pleased to announced that our Spring stock of belts is now in stock.  We love our British mil-spec cotton webbing so much that we used it for our ring belt. The dense, stout weave becomes more supple with use, without ever becoming flimsy. This is a simple ring belt, made from one inch wide webbing with two solid brass rings, and horween leather tab securing the end. Our signature red bar-tack finishes the belt. Made by the same folks who sew our bags in Oregon.

Order your web belt now via our Archival Web Shop.

New Release: Archival Duffel

Our Archival Duffel is intended to be sturdy, simple baggage for your travels. Perfectly sized for carrying on airplanes, it's a compact tube with inside and outside pockets on the ends. The duffel's bottom is covered in a waterproof, super tough nylon truck tarp to put you at ease even when setting your bag down on grimy subway platforms or a dusty road. The main compartment is accessed through a heavy-duty #10 brass zipper with bootlace zipper pulls, covered by a weather-resistant storm flap. A stout, leather-trimmed 2" wide shoulder strap is comfortable and easily removed (strap hangs 20 to 24" from shoulder), and handles in our British military webbing are securely bar-tacked in place.

The duffel is constructed from the highest quality materials: sturdy #8 cotton duck (18 oz), Horween leather, YKK zippers, and thread are of US origin. Webbing and most of our solid brass hardware is sourced from the UK. Edges are bound in waxed cotton tape and all stress points are bar-tacked or riveted. Meets TSA carry-on limits.

Dimensions: 19.5" x 13" x 9.5" (Length / width / height)
Zipper opening: 17"
Volume: 50 liters
1 lb 9 oz

Archival Restock: Billykirk Leathergoods

We've restocked the AC Web Shop with more best quality leather goods by our friends at Billykirk. We now carry the Abstract and "Handmade in USA" skinny cuffs in dark brown with brass hardware. The card/cash case, one of the few small wallets on the market, pairs well with our new, comparatively voluminous AC flap wallet.

Archival Production Report: Flap Wallet

Editor's Note: Nicholas Hollows, of Hollows Leather, is the craftsman behind our new Archival Flap Wallet. We asked him to document his production process in words and photographs. Here's what he had to say:

The Archival Flap Wallets are truly handmade pieces. The leather is cut by hand, shaped by hand, punched and stitched by hand. The hardware is set with a hammer, and the edges are hand-burnished with beeswax. The Chromexcel leather from Horween is incredibly supple and lends the final product a satisfying, book-like quality that feels great to hold. I'm proud of this work, and happy to share it.

Archival Release: AC Flap Wallet

We partnered with Hollows Leather (in Minneapolis, MN) to produce this custom wallet for Archival Clothing.

With a signature Archival flap, our wallet is designed for those who prefer the simplicity of a single main compartment. Generously sized, the wallet fits most currencies, passports and a sizeable pile of receipts. There is also an outer card holder, beneath the flap, for quick access to your most frequently used cards. I like it for grabbing my license during airport security checks. Double stitching in red thread reinforces stress points where the stitching typically gives out.

The Flap Wallet is designed to work with the pocketing dimensions of Archival Clothing bags.

Build notes -- the wallet is made from our favorite archival materials: Horween Chromexcel leather, solid brass hardware and red waxed thread sourced from Japan.

Available now in the Archival Store. For more about how the wallets are made, see an upcoming guest post by Nicholas Hollows.

Dimensions: 4.5" x 5.75"

Archival Update: Rucksacks Available

We're happy to present our latest bag model: the Rucksack. Made in Springfield, Oregon, USA, from 22-ounce Waxwear waxed cotton twill, brass hardware, military-spec cotton webbing, and Horween Chromexcel leather. Practical and free of complications, we're confident that our Rucksack will equal or exceed any other rucksack available in function, durability, comfort, and long-term value.

1 - Lightly padded back panel provides overall structure and protection from awkward cargo. Pack rides closely and load does not sag.
2 - Shoulder straps attach into side seam, curving straps around body for comfort.
3 - Twin outer bellows pockets are easy to access and are nicely sized for smaller personal items.
4 - Single Horween Chromexcel leather strap is light, durable, and convenient.
5 - Dimension is taller and narrower. Loads carry best in this configuration.
6 - Drawstring around top opening keeps load secure and further prevents bag flopping.
7 - Two inch wide webbing shoulder straps are perfectly comfortable for loads up to 25 or 30 pounds.
8 - Convenient locker loop.
9 - Double-layered bottom ensures a long life.
10 - Fully finished inside and out. Seams fully bound in our own waxed canvas bias tape. Stress points are bar-tacked or riveted. Snaps and rivets are reinforced with leather washers.

A limited number of our Rucksacks, in Ranger Tan or Black, are available immediately. The cost is $240 + $16 shipping (in the lower 48). Act quickly, as there are few bags remaining. Please email info@archivalclothing.com to reserve your bag, or to inquire about international shipping.
