These gymnasium suits get mentioned quite a bit in college catalogs of the teens and twenties as part of the details of the physical fitness program requirements for the young ladies. Blue serge was often mentioned. While still a woven fabric, serge's 2/2 twill worsted will provide pretty good stretch. Not to mention the nice healthy glow you'll work up.

I have to admit that this one is pretty darned low on my list of of vintage clothing to make for myself.
