Scenes from Palmer's Mystery Hike No.1
There's very little contextual information for this flickr Commons set from the Australian Powerhouse Museum collection. But I can already tell that "Palmer's Myster Hikes" might be an event worth restaging along the lines of the London Tweed run. Dress requirements: rolled shirt sleeves, traveling knickers, striped blazers, cardigans, walking brogues, arm bands, driving caps and pocket change for train fare to randomly announced regional locales.
At quick glance, these scenes remind me of the well-heeled diners in Luis Bunuel's The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie tromping through the French countryside trying to find a decent, sit-down meal.
